A clinical study of unipolar and bipolar depression



Abstract
The authors investigated phenomenologically the clinical characteristics of 51 unipolar and 32 bipolar depressed patients. And additional attempt was made to ascertain the clinical differences between two groups.
The number of females in unipolars were significantly greater than bipolars.
Educational level and economic state in bipolars were significantly higher than unipolars.
In the psychomotor activity and disturbance of sleep-wake cycle, bipolar patients were more likely to exhibit psychomotor retardation and hypersomnia, whereas unipolars psychomotor agitation and insomnia.
